But this moment of transition also provides an opportunity to reflect on what drives you, what you find meaningful and what you want to contribute to the world. Gap Year NYC is designed to foster these moments of reflection, self-discovery and exploration. This Spring, study in New York with New York Times journalists and other industry experts who will deepen your understanding of the world, widen your horizons and help you plan for the future. We believe in the power of education for all and encourage students from all backgrounds to apply and offer financial aid and scholarships to qualified applicants. Whether you are a lifelong reader of The New York Times or just discovering your interest in journalism, this program is designed as an entryway into the field. Each week uses sections of the newspaper to dive deeply into an important social, cultural or global topic led by an instructor who is an expert in the field. Service Learning and Reflection projects complement these Section Studies , helping students identify ways to give back to the community and contemplate how their understanding of the world is changing. Through mentorship, professional development sessions and life skills workshops, students will end the program with greater clarity about their personal goals and career aspirations. Our mission is to provide affordable educational opportunities to as many qualified applicants as possible. All students are encouraged to apply for Financial Aid. Financial assistance is awarded based on a combination of need and merit. In order to be considered for Financial Aid, students must submit a completed program application, followed by a Financial Aid application. The Diverse Voices Scholarship Fund aims to improve availability, access and equity of learning opportunities for historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students by offering full-tuition scholarships.
