The Heritage Community is a clinically designed RTC that prepares boys and girls for a productive life. Students receive individualized care from the most tenured staff in the field. At Heritage students have life-changing experiences in a therapeutic environment that prepares students to return to their families. Heritage has two powerful Academies, Peers and Elevate that target specific diagnosis in students. Elevate Academy is for adolescents struggling to overcome challenges associated with depression, anxiety, bipolar, and Mood Disorders. Our cognitive behavior therapeutic approach (CBT) focuses on helping teenagers become self-aware of thought processes that lead to negative thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Students are taught how to “elevate” their moods by living a healthy lifestyle, learning new coping skills, and serving others. Students in the Elevate academy learn to be more self-aware, develop healthy living habits, and are exposed to a variety of leisure and outdoor recreational activities in order to discover new hobbies and interests that translate into positive coping skills. The Peers Academy is a powerful, evidenced-based, results-oriented program has been serving students for over a decade. Peers Academy is for adolescents with social skill, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and/or sensory processing deficits. Many students in the Peers Academy have been diagnosed as high-functioning autistic. The PEERS model was originally developed at UCLA to teach social skills to young people on the Autism Spectrum. Heritage adopted this model and is the only residential program certified in the PEERS model. Our clinical team has adapted and molded PEERS to maximize its benefits in a residential treatment setting. In addition to teaching students how to make and keep friends, the Heritage Peers Academy teaches students to learn to organize their daily lives, and regulate and express their emotions, feel comfortable in social settings and ultimately become healthy, contributing members of their communities. Unique to Heritage and essential for an adolescents healing and development is the integration of boys and girls programs on the same campus. Although separated by homes and at school boys and girls interact in carefully planned therapeutic groups and social settings such as the school play, school dances and athletics. The combination of boys and girls programs, Elevate and Peers Academies, individualized care that students receive on their homes of 10-12 students, quality of therapy and academics and the facilitaties on our 19-acre campus make the Heritage Community an ideal setting for healing and growth.
