WORKSHOPS INCLUDE (But Not Limited To): Capital Hill Day (Georgetown Only): Designed for students who are passionate about civic engagement and social impact. Young changemakers meet with Congressional legislators and senior staff members to share insights for community improvements. In 2022, participants highlighted the mental health crisis among youth, gun violence in schools, and opportunities for making communities safer and more inclusive overall. Public Speaking and Networking: Our program is designed to help students develop essential skills in public speaking, networking, and debate skills that are crucial for success both in school and beyond. Public speaking is an essential skill for young people to learn, as it enables them to communicate their ideas clearly and effectively. At PALS, we teach students how to craft powerful speeches and presentations, how to engage and connect with their audience, and how to overcome nervousness and fear. Through hands-on exercises and real-world experience, students learn how to speak with confidence, conviction, and passion skills that will serve them well throughout their lives. Networking is another critical skill that is essential for success in todays world. Whether in business, politics, or social activism, knowing how to make connections and build relationships is key. At PALS, we provide students with opportunities to network with professionals in a variety of fields, learn about different career paths and opportunities, and build connections that can last a lifetime. Finally, we believe that learning to debate your point of view is an essential skill for young leaders. At PALS, we teach students how to construct persuasive arguments, how to listen actively and respectfully to opposing viewpoints, and how to articulate their ideas in a clear and compelling way. By learning how to debate effectively, students develop critical thinking skills, build confidence in their own ideas, and learn how to communicate and collaborate effectively with others.
