This summer, join Rutgers music faculty for our exciting Rutgers Summer Jazz Intensive, virtual Jazz Workshop, and Music Theory and Ear Training Bootcamp. Private music lessons are also available! Rutgers Summer Jazz Intensive Rutgers Summer Jazz Institute is back this summer, in a big way! Over the last year, the nationally recognized Mason Gross jazz faculty have reinvented how Rutgers musicians collaborate remotely and produce high quality performances. Now students ages 1118 are invited to sample a week in the life of a Mason Gross jazz major. Musicians will improve their improvisation, small group, and large ensemble skills, while reconnecting with the jazz community. Music Theory & Ear Training Bootcamp Rutgers music theory faculty prepare students for collegiate placement examinations and for college-level theory and aural skills courses. This program covers the foundational concepts of written music theory and ear training that are included in key signatures, time signatures, scales, intervals, harmony, solfege, sight-singing, and dictation. Jazz Workshop Learn to express yourself through the language of music. Take a journey through the history of jazz, from Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton through Steve Coleman and Makaya McCraven. Each week the class will study an artist and work on translating and adapting their concepts to our own playing. The 90 minute weekly session will be a combination of improvisation, history, styles, and performance. Percussionists must be able to play a keyboard percussion instrument.
