Sailing Ships Maine Semester Program 2026

This accredited experiential semester program at sea blends traditional academics with nautical and deckhand training. You and your classmates will join 9 professional crew members aboard the Schooner Harvey Gamage on a 6-week voyage between Maine and Florida. Sailing Ships Maine creates life-changing opportunities for teens of all abilities and income levels to discover the ocean environment, to expand leaderships skills, and to consider maritime careers. Our academic curriculum at Sailing Ships Maine provides students with exceptional science, language arts, social studies, mathematics, and vocational instruction. We utilize all learning spaces to construct coursework that emphasizes the interconnectedness of marine studies. During the shoreside and sailing components of the program, students engage in field work, serve as members of a tall ship crew and develop their own interest area tying together traditional content areas. Students are responsible for learning to apply their new skills onboard the Harvey Gamage, the iconic 1973 Maine-built schooner. The Sailing Ships Maine curriculum is designed in accordance with Maine State Learning Standards. Student work will be compiled into a final portfolio showcasing their journal, logs, research paper and presentation, and crew reports.
