Educating musicians for the stage and the classroom since 1936, the School of Music is now regarded as one of the nation’s finest undergraduate-only professional schools. We continue this tradition with a select enrollment, embracing academic rigor, artistic excellence, professionalism and diversity. The mission of Stetson University is to provide an excellent education in a creative community where learning and values meet, and to foster in students the qualities of mind and heart that will prepare them to reach their full potential as informed citizens of local communities and the world. At Stetson, the art of teaching is practiced through programs solidly grounded in a tradition of liberal learning that stimulates critical thinking, imaginative inquiry, creative expression, and lively intellectual debate. The art of learning is enhanced through small interactive classes, close student-faculty alliances, and collaborative approaches that provide the foundation for rewarding careers and advanced study in selective graduate and professional programs. The Stetson University School of Music is a vibrant community of approximately 200 exclusively undergraduate musicians and 47 faculty. Established in 1936, the School of Music was Florida’s first collegiate music school. Today, it offers professional training in the form of 13 individual degree options in four areas: music education (for those students seeking to teach young people about music) music performance (for those students who wish to perform) composition (for those students who create music) music academics (for those students who connect theory, technology, and other academic fields to musical study) Education at the School of Music mainly takes place at Stetson University’s DeLand Campus, but students have ample opportunity through extra-curricular activities to extend their education to the greater Orlando area, the greater United States and the world beyond.. Students desiring to declare any music-related major or minor must first complete and pass an audition on their principal instrument as part of the admission process. If you have any questions about the admissions or audition process, contact our music admission recruiter, Hannah Austin, by phone at 386-822-8975 or email at music@stetson.edu.
