Study Spanish in Oaxaca, Mexico. Experience the colonial charms of this highland city surrounded by lush mountains and indigenous villages. Oaxaca is one of the most unique cities in Mexico, and is an ideal location for Spanish language immersion and exploring the country’s pre-Hispanic past. Mexico is a country of rich traditions and contrasting landscapes. A land of snow-capped peaks, expansive deserts, cool cloud forests, and the beauty of two coastlines, the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Students will explore indigenous villages that still retain their native languages, and stroll through colonial cities with their welcoming plazas and inviting architecture. Students will discover the ancient past of the pre-Hispanic cultures, such as the Maya and Aztec, still alive today in traditional festivals and in many aspects of contemporary Mexican life. Mexico is a perfect destination to study Spanish and explore a unique Latin American country. Students earn college credit while studying at the University of Oaxaca (UABJO – Benito Juarez Autonomous University of Oaxaca). Language classes and electives are offered by the prestigious language branch of the university. The university has a relaxed atmosphere, a spacious library, a computer center, and comfortable classroom space.
