The Champlain Game Academy offers two intensive residential pre-college programs for high school students in grades 10-12 and recent high school graduates. Our programs are designed to explore what it’s like to study game development in college while learning how to make games. Students in these programs will work in a creative cohort that stresses the importance of teamwork and creative collaboration. Our curriculum is modeled on the collaborative approach of The Game Studio cohort at Champlain College. Students will have the opportunity to focus on their areas of special interest and, with the instruction of industry professionals, will finish the Academy by co-creating a finished portion of a game. Champlain Game Academy introduces high school students to all aspects of game development including game design, game art and animation, programming, sound, testing and production. Students will gain real-world experience by working as a development team that works together across all game development disciplines to build original game projects. At the end of the Academy, students will have a full understanding of the behind-the-scenes operations of the world’s professional game studios. The Advanced Game Academy explores the field of game development at an advanced level. Building off of the curriculum of the level one program, this course offers students the opportunity to focus more specifically on one particular aspect of game development. Students learn advanced skills through higher level classes and work closely with faculty to develop a more advanced game prototype that can be used in a portfolio for college applications! By enrolling in this course students are able to build more knowledge and experience, becoming that much more prepared for college level courses. (Prerequisite: completion of The Champlain Game Academy) The program offers some time each day for students to relax with new friends. Students  can get outside and enjoy green space on campus, enjoy a movie night or a game tournament and enjoy a day trip to Mt. Philo State Park.
