Through the week-long “Intro to Stem Cell Systems” summer (or spring break) program, we offer a select number of high school students (in groups of 6, with a 4:1 to 6:1 student : teacher/researcher ratio) the opportunity to work hands-on in a biotech lab with stem cells at our Torrance location. Students will explore the science of stem cell research and regenerative medicine through labs, literature research, lecture-discussions, professional scientists, & guest speakers.
The 5-day course is for entry-level scientists ages 15 – 18 (high school students), no specific prerequisites required, though the program is selective and has limited enrollment availability.
When is it offered?
The 5-day program has been offered in the summer and during some students’ spring breaks. Groups are small, ranging from 4 to 6 students each.
The program ends with a career development seminar focusing on the many career paths available to bioscientists, led by professionals with academic and industry experience. This unique course is suited to any motivated science student with an interest in learning more about stem cell research and its current real-world application.
