Since 2003, Trent University’s Forensic Science Camp has offered students (ages 13-17) the opportunity to experience a week in the life of a forensic scientist. Campers learn what it takes to process a crime scene, analyze evidence, and take it to court.
Structure:
- Students are introduced to an open investigation
- It’s their job to work with our counselors, demonstrators, and guest speakers to gain the skills necessary to crack the case!
- Campers gain first hand experience with a number of forensic practices through in-class lectures by our guest and counselors, as well as laboratory activities.
- Crime scene note-taking and photography
- Identifying and packaging evidence
- Developing DNA profiles for their case
- Evidence analysis in: fingerprints, bloodstains, hairs, footwear impressions, and skeletal remains
- Participating in a mock trial
- Overnight campers stay at Trent University’s Peter Gzowski residence, surrounded by stunning natural scenery
- Day camp is also an option for our participants that live nearby
- Parents are responsible for arranging all transportation
This is an educational camp by Trent University and the NRDPF.
