Screenwriting: From Story to Script
This course will introduce students to the fundamental concepts of fictional story creation for the visual medium of movies and television. Students will focus on the pillars that form a solid foundation for compelling narrative such as premise, genre, character development, story structure, and more. Learn to think critically, creatively, and explore the science behind the art. This class will delve into various genres, the complex relationships between protagonists and antagonists, the 3-act structure, how to create tension, and all the other crucial elements of generating a solid, cohesive story, taught by a professional screenwriter and published author of Prewriting Your Screenplay: A Step-By-Step Guide to Generating Stories.
Virtual Production: Digital Tools of the Trade
This course provides first-time Production students with a solid foundational understanding of the tools and techniques being used by cutting-edge filmmakers, such as pre-visualization and motion capture. Students will spend a large portion of the course working hands-on with Unreal Engine 4, a state-of-the-art 3D world-building tool that is currently being used by many of Hollywood’s top filmmakers to make feature films and television shows. Students will learn to build worlds from scratch populated by scenery and assets. This course relies heavily on small-group workshops to facilitate projects and allow for maximum one-on-one interaction between the instructor and students.
Post-Production: The Art of the Cut
In this course, students will learn to utilize editing software through a series of exercises and projects that will give them first-hand experience with creating works using the industry’s editing processes. Students will finish the class boasting a portfolio of their own works, such as a music video created by cutting together raw industry footage provided by the instructor. Students will receive and incorporate feedback from the instructor to improve their editing skills and expand their ability to weave narrative through their editing workflow.
