The French Cultural Center of Boston is here to provide French language instruction and cultural programs to children, teens, and adults to embrace today’s closely connected world.

Classes are available all year-around (and offered both in-person in the Greater Boston, Massachusetts area, in Cambridge, MA, and online) for students of all ages to sign up for French courses. Classes are geared towards age groups and ability levels. For example:

  • Les Ateliers du Mercredi (4 to 6 years-old)
  • Cinema for Teens (+13 years-old)
  • Les Ateliers du Samedi (10 to 12 years-old)
  • AP French Exam Workshop (+13 years-old)
  • Literature for Teens (+13 years-old)

If the student is between 10 to 16 years-old, then they can take a placement test to see what is best for them! To learn more about session dates, costs, and how to sign up, check out our website.

Diverse French Language Offerings Include:

We offer courses for children and teenagers at both non-native speaker and bilingual levels. Use the tool below to find current offerings appropriate for your child’s age.

For children who are learning French as a foreign language, our curriculum focuses on a fun, educational and age-appropriate environment through cultural and linguistic immersion that can aid their recreational communication skills, as well as set them up to ace the AP French Exam. We follow the “Smart Steps To French” program, which is used by many branches of US Alliance Française and allows a progression of learning objectives adapted to the age and level of the children. Through games, songs, and stories, but also reading and writing methods, children discover the pleasure of speaking, understanding, writing and reading a new language.

Our curriculum for children with native or near-native competency in French is based on French literature, songs, games, and crafts that will enrich students’ vocabulary and expand their conversation skills. For older children, a reading and writing approach, as well as focus on grammar and conjugation, is also part of the curriculum.

For as low as $20, supplement your child’s coursework with the full-immersion experience and enjoy discounts on our cultural events; borrowing privileges at our French-language library, the largest of its kind in New England; unlimited access to our digital resources; and much more!
