It is not often that high school students get to see the complete study cycle from beginning to end. But that is exactly what participants accomplish during the five-week Research Science Institute, which is funded by the Center for Excellence in Education and hosted at Massachusetts Institute of Technology every year (MIT). Students will do hands-on research with established academics, study up on the most recent literature in their subject, write extensive research proposals, and present a conference-style oral report.
Each summer, the Research Science Institute brings together 80 of the world’s most distinguished high school students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (RSI). RSI is the first free summer science and engineering program for students that combines on-campus course study in scientific theory with off-campus activity in science and technology research.
Participants go through the complete research cycle from beginning to end. They read the most recent literature in their subject, create and carry out a thorough research plan, and present their results in conference-style oral and written reports.
