The Science and Engineering Apprentice Program (SEAP) employs academically outstanding high school students with an interest and skill in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) as summer apprentices in DoD laboratories. The Navy SEAP program presently involves more than 25 Navy laboratories around the country. Students will gain scientific and technical knowledge not accessible in their academic context by working directly with research specialists who serve as mentors. The program provides students with a one-of-a-kind and pleasant experience in their subjects of interest, encouraging them to pursue STEM-related jobs. Exposure to scientific and engineering activity at DoD facilities may help build a good picture of the military community and a desire to learn more about it.
