Learning Experience at the Camp:
The camp offers an insight into the CDC’s core work areas: public health and epidemiology. Public health encompasses research, data collection and analysis, and health education, focusing on community well-being. Epidemiology, the study of disease patterns in populations, plays a crucial role in public health efforts at the CDC. The camp’s curriculum, while beneficial for aspiring medical doctors, does not concentrate on medical treatment.
To ensure an engaging experience, the camp integrates current health topics into its activities. However, due to changing curricula and CDC facility availability, each session’s activities may vary. Campers will engage in simulated disease outbreaks, mock press conferences, environmental and global health tasks, lab sessions, chronic disease surveillance, public health law, and lectures from CDC experts. The camp involves interactive and physical activities, requiring campers to be mobile and active.
