This financial literacy summer course for tweens and teens (run by Duke University) is meant to educate children in grades 6-8 the principles of financial literacy while also assisting them in developing a healthy relationship with money.

This course is meant to educate children in grades 6-8 the principles of financial literacy while also assisting them in developing a healthy relationship with money.

We firmly think that you should regard your money as a relationship that has to be fostered on a regular basis, and that you should begin working on that relationship as soon as possible! Students will study important financial literacy subjects such as:

creating and monitoring a budget
saving and having an emergency fund
investing money
building credit and borrowing loans
good debt vs bad debt
paying taxes

Through realistic simulations, games and other problem-solving activities, you will develop practical strategies for managing your money and making strong financial decisions. Topics will include:

Budgeting
Money management
Saving and emergency funds
Financial recovering
Spending decision making
Investing (401k, Real Estate, Crypto, Stocks & Bonds, Precious Materials/Collectibles)
Income streams
Taxes
Assets vs liabilities
Credit vs loans & debt
Credit scores

Duke Youth Programs is part of Duke University Continuing Studies and offers summer enrichment courses in writing, science, leadership, engineering, computers, performing arts, and college admissions to middle and high school children!
