Rider University offers an array of pre-college summer programs for high school students, both on-campus in person and with some options remote and virtual. These programs provide students hands-on or real-world and college-level, career-focused exposure to a diversity of STEM-related (and other) disciplines. Further, students who complete a pre-college summer program from Rider are eligible for a $2,000/year scholarship to the university, should they choose to attend post-high school graduation.

The Game Design Academy Summer program introduces high school students to the skills and tools used to develop digital games in a professional creative environment.

Structure of Game Design Academy:

  • 1-week session
  • Industry-standard software
  • Learn basics of digital design and game logic programming
  • Students will develop a playable game that can be shared with family and friends
  • Cover concepts in system design, digital art and interaction design through hands-on tasks

Highlights:

  • Work hands-on in Rider University Game Production Lab
  • Latest industry-standard software and hardware
  • Develop a better understanding of game analysis
  • Experience with graphic design tools and basic interactive programming
  • Learn about the relationships between interactive design systems in game production

  • Discuss career opportunities in the field
  • Preview college living and prepare for undergraduate life
  • Overnight students will stay in a college dorm and participate in campus activities, though students are able to attend as commuters for just the day camp, too
