Gap Year NYC, the Gap Year at The School of The New York Times, offers a 6-week and 12-week in-person (and occasionally online) program to enable students to study in New York with New York Times journalists and other industry experts to deepen students’ understanding of the world and foster their future careers. The School of The New York Times also offers a similar Summer Academy.
The Gap Year NYC is especially pertinent and valuable for students potentially interested in exploring a future career in journalism and was designed as an entryway into the field. Each week of the program uses sections of the newspaper to address and dissect key social, cultural, and global topics led by industry expert instructors. There are additional Service Learning and Reflection projects to complement those lectures and help students give back to the community.
