The Kansas State University Bands Leadership & Auxiliary Camp is open to all students currently in grades 9 through 12. Drum Majors, Section Leaders, Percussionists, and Colorguard members from all over Kansas and beyond came to the KSU campus to learn conducting, leadership skills, guard technique, and percussion technique. In July, 140 Drum Majors, Section Leaders, Percussionists, and Colorguard members from all over Kansas and beyond come to the KSU campus to learn conducting, leadership skills, guard technique, and percussion technique. The students at Leadership and Auxiliary Camp participate in a number of large and small group activites that help strengthen their leadership skills, teamwork, positive attitudes, and work ethic. The camp is “process driven” with the goal that each student will come away with the knowledge and confidence necessary to be leaders within their own band programs. The camp is concluded with a wonderful performance where each student group gets a chance to perform and demonstrate what they have learned in the couple days spent under the instruction of K-State Band Staff, Graduate Assistants, Drum Majors, Band Leadership, and Kansas Music Educators. Camp Staff The staff of the Kansas State University Leadership and Auxiliary Camp is comprised of the KSU Marching Band (KSUMB) Drum Majors, Color Guard, and various KSUMB staff. A minimum of two staff members live on each floor with the campers and all staff members supervise student rehearsals through the day and evening. Daily Schedule Daily activities include team building exercises, breakout/leadership sessions, sectional rehearsals (drum majors, leadership sessions, percussion, color guard), recreational time, and full ensemble rehearsals. A final performance by the Drum Major & Leadership Candidates, Percussion, and Color Guard campers will be given at the conclusion of the camp. Members of the camp staff also serve as the students’ counselors during their four-day stay in the plush accomodations of Boyd Hall Dormitory on the K-State Campus.
