Our mission is to enrich the lives of seniors, children, and their families throughout our diverse community. Founded in 1978, ONEgeneration began as a modest and focused storefront senior center initiated, operated, and directed by visionary volunteers. A continuing hallmark of ONEgeneration is our intergenerational programming which unites our seniors, children and young people in daily multicultural activities. The value of this caring and foundational relationship bond is widely recognized in research it is an essential building block for enriching the lives of all. TEEN PARENT PROGRAM ONE generations school based program combines individual services, strong linkages to community resources and peer group education sessions to help first time pregnant and parenting teens avoid subsequent pregnancies. Core activities of the program revolve around a series of weekly workshops and presentations to help each participant with the following goals: (1) avoid a subsequent pregnancy, (2) connect with resources and services in the community, (3) enhance parenting abilities and understanding of child development, (4) remain in high school with the goal of graduation/completion, and (5) preparation to achieve their education and career goals. All programs from ONEgeneration are supported by a strong volunteer core. Students play an important role in the success and quality of services we provide. High school students tutor seniors one on one on the computer, learning internet navigation and how to email. College interns in Gerontology, Social Welfare, Public Health, Nursing and many other fields of study join us each semester for course credit. These students have the opportunity to gain hands on learning experiences working directly with seniors with cognitive impairments, completing assessments during home visits, working with young children and much more.
