Quinnipiac University Summer Pre College Medical Microbiology 2026

This one-week intensive program for high school students offers hands-on learning in medical microbiology, including culturing microbes, analyzing results, and diagnosing infectious diseases. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the functions and importance of the human microbiome in health and disease and will learn more about the topics of antibiotic resistance and disease outbreaks. Microorganisms are all around us and help shape our everyday lives. While some microbes are bad and cause disease, others are vital for maintaining optimal health. This summer explore the exciting world of microbiology and learn strategies and hands-on skills for culturing microbes and diagnosing infectious diseases. Explore the importance of the human microbiome in health and disease, the rise of antibiotic resistance, and local and global challenges of infectious disease outbreaks. The format of the program includes discussions, laboratory techniques and fun activities designed to reinforce scientific concepts in an informal environment. In addition, participants will meet microbiologists and microbiology students who can offer insight into careers in microbiology. At the end of this program, you will walk away with: Valuable hands-on laboratory skills and techniques commonly performed in clinical and research settings Strategies for identifying microorganisms causing infectious diseases Understanding of the beneficial microbes that make up the human microbiome and their importance in human health 2023 Dates: July 24 – July 28 Program Costs Option 1: 1-week program, plus full room & board (overnight) and activities Sunday-Saturday: $1,680 Option 2: 1-week program, Monday-Friday, on-campus program, 9 a.m.4 p.m. (commuter), lunch included: $1,200 Both options include: One week of faculty-designed and delivered programming, administered online or on-campus with educational support staff and program materials All equipment, technology and software support Quinnipiac T-shirt Certificate of completion with personal assessment from a Quinnipiac professor Special Quinnipiac admissions events Partial financial support may be available for those who indicate the need for financial assistance in their online application.
