In 1977, the Rainbow Center opened its doors, offering assistance to children with developmental disabilities in our community. Planning of this facility began in 1976 and we became an incorporated, not-for-profit organization in 1977. Initially established to assist children with developmental disabilities who needed a more intensive therapy program within an academic environment, we commenced operations with only three students. In July 1996, the Rainbow Center expanded our program to include adults with disabilities too severe to function within a supported employment or sheltered workshop setting. Today, the Center serves 116 persons with Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and/or other communication and/or behavioral disorders.
