A school for bright students in Grades 1-12 with dyslexia & related language based learning differences. Sandhills School is a not-for-profit, co-educational day school for children in the first through twelfth with diagnosed learning differences, such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and/or ADHD. Located off Garners Ferry Road on 22 partially wooded acres, it hosts a pond, wilderness trails, wildlife, protected beehives, sports fields and a playground, Sandhills provides the foremost learning environment for students in grades first through twelfth with an average to superior intellect who learn differently. Sandhills develops the potential of each student by fostering intellectual curiosity, principled character and a commitment to serve. Sandhills School is nationally recognized as one of twelve model schools in the nation that is accredited by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators (AOGPE) for using the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching students who learn differently. As the only accredited school in the Midlands region, Sandhills is also one of sixteen AOGPE accredited teacher training centers in the nation. In addition, the school serves as an educational resource for the community on language-based learning differences. Along with the regular day school program, summer skills programs and tutoring are offered to outside students. Sandhills is the recognized expert in teaching students with learning differences and inspiring them to enjoy learning.
