Seize the Year (StY) is a unique, bespoke, arts-focused gap year planning service that focuses on supporting creative students with interests, talents, and future educational or career pursuits centered around the Arts. StY works with students and parents to develop year-long structured pathways for student experimentation, growth, and an impressive outcome in the form of a portfolio and concrete accomplishments.

Seize the Year advises young emerging artists in fields ranging from painting to sculpture, architecture, design, photography, film, video, and technology-based work (i.e. graphic design, etc.), while facilitating interdisciplinary approaches in Contemporary Art and Design.

Seize the Year staff have years of experience in arts education at the collegiate level and provide a host of additional online services to further ensure students have a structured, transformative Interim Year that prepares them for success post-gap year, in college applications, arts-related internships, and subsequent career exploration. A few of those services include:

Consultation to discuss student goals for the StY Interim Year and following pursuits
StY Interim Year personalized list of opportunities, programs, workshops and classes specific to the student’s creative and professional goals
15-hour commitment for students and parents to plan, structure and implement the year-long plan
Quarterly portfolio reviews for each student to ensure adequate impressive productivity and marked progress
College recommendation letters provided based on a portfolio review at the end of the student’s StY Interim Year
College application assistance: portfolio and artist statement guidance and review
Unlimited ongoing support during the student’s StY Interim Year to ensure they always have direction and are progressing towards an impressive outcome and enhanced skill set
