Startable is a free program that teaches entrepreneurial and engineering skills to teenagers ages 13 to 18 via the creation and sale of hardware devices. Participants create their own businesses, keep 100% of the proceeds from their products, and compete for cash prizes at our final event. Startable is 100% virtual and welcomes individual students to apply!
Startable adolescents learn a variety of skills during the program and afterwards. Students who participate will study the fundamentals of product and web design from industry specialists. They get expertise in developing equitable partnerships, meeting management, project schedule creation and execution, and budgeting.
Participants collaborate to build prototypes, marketing materials, and sales pitches. They then sell, present, network, and raise further capital for their firms. The program concludes with a final community gathering where friends and family may see product demos and cheer on the Pitch Competition contestants.
All of this incredible effort is founded on the concept of community. Working electronically with many community groups helps students to continue utilizing local resources even after the program has ended.
