ARVO is excited to present our annual Student Science Video Contest. Enter the competition by March 20, 2022 for a chance to win a $2000 prize and have your video presented at a major science conference! ARVO is hosting a video competition to engage with high school aged students in the Denver area and surrounding communities ahead of its Annual Meeting in Denver on May 1 – 4. The competition aims to engage individuals from underrepresented groups in STEM education, including women, persons with disabilities, and communities of color, and encourage them to pursue science careers – with the end goal to promote diversity within science. To enter the competition, participants would have to create a 2-to-3-minute video about your very own science story. You get bonus points if it’s about eyes and vision science – but you can pick any STEM topic that you’re interested in! Then you submit your video in one of the contest’s five categories listed on the contest website and below. Participants will have a chance to win up to $2,000 and the winning video will be featured at a major science conference! In addition, you will have an opportunity to talk with a scientist from ARVO about what it’s like to work in STEM. Categories: My first or favorite experiment – Who or what inspired you to conduct your experiment? What was your hypothesis? – What did you learn? How will you apply your findings to future experiments — or use them in your future career? – What advice do you have for other students preparing to conduct their first experiment? Did you get helpful tips from someone that you’d want others to know? My live science demonstration – What inspired you to conduct this experiment or demonstration? – How will you use the scientific method to solve a problem? – What did you learn? How will you apply your findings to future experiments — or use them in your future career? What an animal taught me – What scientific observations have you made? – What do the animal and humans have in common? – How will you apply what you learned to future scientific study? What my science teacher taught me – What science topics have you enjoyed learning about in school and why? – How did your teacher capture your interest in this topic? – What else has your teacher inspired you to study? How my favorite scientist made a difference – Who’s your favorite scientist and what are they known for? – What was their journey to scientific discovery? What obstacles did they face? – How do we use their findings today? Awards ARVO will select 3 winners: Grand prize — $2000 Second place — $1000 Third place — $500 ARVO will showcase the grand prize video at its Annual Meeting on May 1 – 4, 2022. Need a Mentor?
