Students who become SAMS Scholars follow a demanding curriculum taught by our renowned teachers and staff who are genuinely devoted to student achievement. Students may get a better grasp of STEM through conventional classroom learning, hands-on projects, and ongoing engagement with world-renowned teachers and competent staff mentors. Students have the ability to interact and establish important relationships with classmates from around the country in addition to their academic experiences.

The Summer Math and Science Academy will be divided into two parts:

PART 1: The first part of the SAMS program will take place prior to the start of the residential program (dates to be determined). This will be a virtual kickstart for participants, focused on skill development for the in-person program. The program will be connected digitally for sections of these days at this period, but students will not be required for complete days.

PART 2: The SAMS curriculum will continue with a 5-week in-person Pre-College program. Students will move into residential halls on July 1st, and courses will begin on July 3rd. During their 5-week stay, SAMS Scholars will be in classes and meetings for entire days. The academic phase of the program will complete on Friday, August 4th, with the symposium, and students will leave the residence halls on Saturday, August 5th.

SAMS is a merit-based program that is fully supported. Participation by scholars is free of charge. We anticipate that all SAMS 2023 Scholars will engage completely throughout the program.

  • Students will complete Quantitative and Computational Skill seminars that compose the academic core:
    • Math
    • Science
    • STEM-related seminar & project that is advised by a STEM faculty and/or graduate student
  • Students will participate in writing workshops with a focus on college application preparation.
  • Students will attend workshops, meet with alumni, students, university leaders, and finalize STEM-based projects.
  • Students will meet in mentoring small groups facilitated by the Center for Student Diversity & Inclusion.
  • Students will participate in and learn more about collaborative learning through group tutoring and academic coaching sessions offered through the Student Academic Success Center.
  • Students and families will participate in virtual enrichment sessions, such as financial aid, FAFSA, and college admission.
  • Families will participate in virtual workshops about how to best support their student in the college search and admission process.
