Summer Studios At Ohio University

This summer, immerse yourself in the fine arts with Ohio University’s Pre-College Programs in the Fine Arts—intensive, hands-on explorations in the Schools of Art + Design, Music, Dance, Film, and Theater. Students aged 14–18 choose from courses in any area of the Fine Arts, work with faculty and visiting artists to improve their skills, hone their creative vision, and create meaningful personal work–all while living on our beautiful campus in Athens, Ohio. Pre-college students have the option to live in residence halls and experience on-campus college life fully, or may choose to commute to and from classes each day.  Either way, they’ll have the opportunity to attend not only their class sessions and visiting artist presentations but also to take advantage of all that Athens has to offer in the summertime! Extracurricular activities are organized by resident advisors and instructors and may include independent films at the Athena Cinema, musical productions and concerts, craft nights, etc. Students also have the option to take advantage of the Ping Recreation Center, or explore Athens’ many independent cafés and shops! Please note: Health and safety requirements for Ohio University students and visitors adhere to CDC guidance. There is no current vaccination requirement for pre-college students, and masks will not be required in campus spaces while Athens County community levels remain low. SESSION 1: June 5–16, 2023 (courses run 9:30–4:30 Monday through Friday) Residential stay June 4–17, 2023 Art + Design: Design Launchpad Art + Design: Fiber: Stitching a Story Art + Design: Painting + Drawing Studio Film: Summer Film Lab Theater: Musical Theater SESSION 2: June 26–30, 2023 (courses run 9:30–4:30 Monday through Friday) Residential stay June 25–July 1, 2023 Art + Design: Introduction to the Figure Art + Design: Photography: Digital and Alternative Processes Dance: Summer Dance Institute with the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company* Film: Animation Lab Music: OHIO Summer Music Academy, including Band Camp, Contemporary Music and Digital Instruments, Piano, Strings, and Voice* Theater: Acting Intensive *Music and Dance programs include activities on Sunday June 25 and Saturday July 1 PROGRAM FEES – 2023 Program fees include all costs of instruction and supplies (with the exception of some personal items such as tap shoes for Musical Theater participants and instruments for some Music Academy participants–percussion and electronic instruments are provided on campus).
