The Midland School is a comprehensive special education program serving the individual social, emotional, academic, and career education needs of children with developmental disabilities. The Midland School is a New Jersey approved nonprofit school for children with developmental disabilities. Serving approximately 190 students from public school districts throughout northern and central New Jersey, Midland provides a comprehensive special education program serving the individual social, emotional, academic, and career education needs of each of its students. Our students range in age from 5 to 21 years of age, and are classified as eligible for special education and related services under a variety of categories that include multiply disabled, cognitively impaired, communication impaired and autistic. Admission to Midland can be initiated at any time of the year when parents and the sending district determine that the student can benefit from the program. Appropriate placements are usually available. Midland develops and implements individualized educational programs that ensure each of our students reaches his or her highest level of achievement and independence to help them to become contributing members of their communities. The School week is filled with instructional highlights and the Midland academic curriculum meets all New Jersey core curriculum standards, and includes reading, math, language skills, science, social studies, and physical education. Functional and life skills education are provided and an extensive career education and school-to-work transition program prepares students for adult life. Social Skills or soft skills are emphasized to maximize each students ability to participate in various social settings in the greater community. Midland boasts a dedicated and experienced faculty; more than 60% of Midlands teachers and administrators have been at Midland for 10 years or more. Midland has twice been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.
