University of Georgia’s Summer Aviation Academy Camp is a co-ed, week-long, on-campus (either day or residential for those who prefer to stay in dorms overnight) summer camp dedicated to illuminating the science and physics of flight for its participants! Students don’t need any specific prerequisites or prior knowledge or experience, as this summer course camp is designed to accommodate beginners, as well as those with a bit of prior exposure to physics and flight.
A few ways students will learn hands-on in an immersive environment:
- Ground school lessons
- Practice flying using computerized flight simulation software under the guidance of real pilots
- Develop flight plans
- Practice conducting pre-flight inspections
- Explore the many careers in aviation
- Take a trip to the local airport, so students can see how it operates and view some small aircrafts up close
- Post-camp, students are invited to a private EAA Young Eagles event in Athens, where they can fly in a small airplane with a licensed pilot!
