Gifted and high-achieving students (usually those scoring in the 95th percentile or higher) are selected to attend Vanderbilt University’s famous Summer Academy. This one-of-a-kind experience gives kids a taste of actual college life by allowing them to live on campus, take accelerated classes with Vandy professors, participate in social events, and, of course, complete college-level homework projects. Alzheimer’s Treatment and Research, Bioarchaeology: Research and Implications, Addiction in the Modern Age, Microscopy of Nanomaterials, and more science-related courses are available.
VSA students receive accelerated courses taught by faculty selected from Vanderbilt University’s abundance of excellent academics as well as from the Nashville community. To accommodate the demands of talented and high-ability students, VSA courses are designed to be accelerated. With up to six hours of academic instruction every day, this curriculum delivers a satisfactory degree of focus and depth. Because courses are accelerated, we require applicants to submit eligibility papers to see if an accelerated course would be a good academic match for the student.
