Eastman attracts students who possess a true passion for music and who are looking to chart their own unique paths toward their musical goals. The Eastman School of Music is a comprehensive professional music school that is a part of a top-tier research university. Performance is at the core of every major at Eastman. For the Bachelor of Music, every student, regardless of major, must have a primary instrument. For all for years of study, each student will have a weekly 1 hour lesson for their primary instrument with a resident artist faculty member and will perform in a large ensemble. Eastman Ensembles: Eastman School Symphony Orchestra Eastman Philharmonia Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra Eastman Wind Ensemble Eastman Wind Orchestra Eastman Chorale Eastman Repertory Singers Eastman Rochester Chorus Eastman Women’s Chorus Eastman Opera Theatre Eastman Jazz Ensemble Eastman New Jazz Ensemble Jazz Lab Band Eastman Studio Orchestra Eastman Chamber Jazz Orchestra The Bachelor of Music curriculum is designed to provide the comprehensive training that is necessary to succeed in today’s music world. All students will complete a five-semester sequence of Music Theory, a four-semester sequence of Music History, 8 semesters of large ensemble performance, 6 semesters of chamber music, 8 semesters of private lesson instruction, piano study, and 1 non-music course each semester. Career development, internships, and the Arts Leadership Program are offered through the Institute for Music Leadership (IML) office. Eastman offers the Bachelor of Music degree with the following majors: Applied Music (Classical Performance) Composition Jazz Studied and Contemporary Media (Performance and Writing) Music Education Theory Eastman is also home to the Sibley Music Library, the largest and most comprehensive academic music library in North America. Its holdings include: 384,000 books and scores 101,000 recordings 150,000 rare items and archival collections The Eastman School of Music is located in Rochester, New York. Eastman’s concert halls and facilities offer historic opulence along with 21st century design and technology. Eastman’s recital halls include: Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre, 2,326 seats Kilbourn Hall, 444 seats Schmitt Organ Recital Hall Hatch Recital Hall, 222 seats The best way to discover whether or not a school is a good fit for you is to visit campus. The Admissions Office hosts regular Information Sessions and Tours of Campus every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (with some holiday exceptions) at 10:00AM.
