The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) was co-founded by Sir Paul McCartney in 1996, has quickly established a reputation as one of the world’s leaders for the performing arts training for those who perform and make performance possible. Our unique curriculum replicates the working practices of the arts & entertainment industries and over the last three years, on average 91% of our graduates were in work, 82% in the performing arts.  We are home to around 950 students in total, with approximately 25% of our students are from outside the UK and over 30 nationalities are represented. The university if situated in England’s city of Liverpool, a UNESCO City of Music, listed as the Guinness Book of Records “World Capital of Pop” and home to more museums, galleries, and listed buildings than any other UK city outside of London. It is a publicly funded, university-level institution offering 3-year degree courses and one-year masters/ graduate school courses in the performing arts, including: BA (Honours) Acting Like the US BFA programs, our program teaches classical and contemporary acting and elements of Musical Theater). BA (Honours) Acting (Screen & Digital Media) (prepares you to work across established and emerging performance mediums, for both on-screen performances and gain off-camera skills) BA (Honours) Community Drama (In the US, this is more commonly known as Community Arts or Applied Theater) BA (Honours) Creative Technologies and Performance (for storytellers, filmmakers, creatives, and technicians, who use new audio-visual technologies to deliver exceptional content for film, tv, theater, concert, and online audiences) BA (Honours) Dance  (Like the US BFA program, we train dancers to work professionally. You will learn ballet, contemporary, jazz, commercial street dance styles, aerial dance, musical theater & tap). BA (Honours) Music (We train students to work as performers, composers, songwriters, and producers across many genres including rock, pop, soul, jazz, and alternative). BA (Honours) Music ( Songwriting and Performance) BA (Honours) Music (Songwriting and Production) BA (Honours) Management of Music, Entertainment, Theater, and Events (In the US, this program is a combination of subject areas known as Arts Management, Arts Administration, and Music Business Management). BA (Honours) Sound Technology (In the US, this is more commonly known as Audio Engineering or Recording Arts). BA (Honours) Theater and Performance Design (In the US, this program is more commonly known as Theater Design and includes set design, costume design, and lighting design). BA (Honours) Theater and Performance Technology (In the US, this program is more commonly known as Technical Theater and includes theater, sound and lighting design, stage management, and stagecraft). MA Acting (Company) (working in and developing work for touring and finding audience) MA Costume Making (for versatile and creative costume makers developing the technical construction skills to produce costumes for all types of performances) Applications can be submitted via our website and there is no application fee. We hold auditions and interviews in the US each Spring, details of which are available on our website. We receive over 3000 applications for just 300 places each year and although admission is competitive we pride ourselves on being a creative, collaborative, and supportive community. Tuition fees are approximately $25,000 per year and we are approved by the US Department of Education for Federal Financial Aid. Liverpool is an affordable student city – everything is within walking distance and the cost of living tends to be much lower than elsewhere in the UK (particularly London).
