The Fine Arts Program at USF is dedicated to providing students with traditional and contemporary skills in a studio setting under the guidance of professional artists. The curriculum is designed to challenge young artists imaginations and creativity while providing them with tools. The Fine Arts program is positioned within the larger Department of Art + Architecture, where students are exposed to many topics and issues in Architecture, Design, and Art History. In the Fine Arts, students explore progressive thinking, social and environmental practices, and learn to value traditional processes of art making. They are also introduced to important practical skills such as writing artist statements and grant proposals, and working in the collaborative process–with students in other departments as well as with community-based organizations. The balanced program prepares students for a variety of professional directions, with course offerings that include in-depth study in painting, grl sculpture, printmaking, and installation art. Upper-level Service Learning courses provide students the opportunity to work closely with professors creating community-based projects focusing on social justice and cultural diversity. We also offer electives in Mural Painting, Stained Glass, Color Theory, and Photography. Fine Art coursework is augmented by visiting artists, field trips, and interdisciplinary study within the larger university setting. Students have opportunities to make art on campus, join art clubs, draw from the nude model in extracurricular sessions, and create outdoor art projects in a safe collaborative setting. There is 24-hour key card access to our 2D studio, which supports drawing, printmaking and painting processes. We also have extensive supervised access to the 3D studio, which includes woodworking, ceramics and mixed media techniques.
